NFC Coin Tags: 25 mm of Tap Surface for Tables and Products

A 25 mm coin tag is one of the smallest tap surfaces available. Where it fits on a table or a product, and where it does not.

A coin tag is exactly what the name suggests: a small round tag, about the size of a coin, that reads when a phone comes close. At 25 mm across it is one of the smallest tap points in the range, and that small size is the entire point. A coin tag disappears into a scene instead of dominating it, which makes it useful in places where a big printed sticker would look out of place. This article looks at where a round 25 mm coin tag belongs, what it fits onto, and when a tiny round tag is the better answer.

What a 25 mm coin tag is

Round 25 mm coin tags are small circular NFC tags built around the same electronics as the rest of the range: an NFC Type 2 chip at 13.56 MHz, following ISO/IEC 14443A, with a typical read distance of 2 to 5 cm. The chip options are NTAG213 at 144 bytes, NTAG215 at 504 bytes, and NTAG216 at 888 bytes. Because the tag is round and small, it meets a phone like a button or a token rather than a printed label.

A coin tag is small enough to sit at the corner of a card, on a product, or on a fixture without covering anything you want seen. Most of these tags read with no app installed, so the customer only has to bring the phone close for the page to open.

Where the small size works in its favour

Big stickers are good at being noticed; coin tags are good at being discreet. When the tap point must not interrupt a design - the surface of a product, a tidy counter, a stand someone will look at closely - a 25 mm round tag is often the neatest option available. It adds a function without adding bulk.

The size also changes where you can put it. A coin tag fits the small flat areas that a full sticker cannot cover without spilling over an edge. That makes it the natural choice for product-level taps, where each item carries its own tag, rather than for a single call to action across a whole room.

Where to stick a coin tag

On a table, a coin tag can sit at the corner nearest the guest, quiet next to the cutlery. On a product, it can live on the face, the base, or the packaging, depending on where a hand naturally lands. Near a till, a small coin tag on the counter edge gives a customer something precise to aim at without a large printed sign.

The same rule as any tag applies: keep the spot flat, clean, and free of the grease or moisture that a busy surface collects. Where a surface is wiped constantly, a waterproof finish holds up better than a bare film.

It also pays to think about how the tap reads. A round tag has a small, tidy footprint, so the point a phone needs to find is small too. Placing it on a flat, stable part of the object - not on a curved edge or over a seam - keeps the tap reliable for every customer who tries it.

The chip and finish behind the tag

Like every product in the range, a coin tag can be custom printed, so the face can carry a logo, an instruction, or a short line asking for a tap. It can also ship with a dynamic QR code if you want a scannable route as well. If you are comparing formats, our products page shows the coin tag next to the larger stickers and the cards.

Coin tag or full-size sticker?

Choose a coin tag when discretion matters and the tap point sits on something small. Choose a full-size sticker when you want the tap point to be seen from across the room, or when the face needs to carry printing that a 25 mm circle cannot hold. Both read the same way; the difference is how much space each one asks for. Our guide walks through matching a format to a surface.
